Now look at this face.
What could possibly stand between two very sweet faces such as those? I tell ya, it's one of life's little mysteries.
The first face is that of my younger brother, Everett. The second is that of my childhood best friend, Katie.
Putting the two of them in a room together was like putting two Jack Russell's in a small cage. They clashed like you would not believe.
In one memorable evening stands out in my memory above the rest. Katie had come to my house for a sleepover. Katie never went anywhere without two things. Her headband, which had created permanent dents in her skull behind her ears by the age of 11, and her satin pillow. The pillow was something along the lines of a not so obvious security blanket.
We were all (including Everett, who was about 4 at the time) playing up in my room, when Everett worked his way over to Katie and wiped a booger on her. There is really no explanation for that. She shrieked, and rightfully so, she had the booger of a 4 year old stuck to her arm.
After my mom had gotten the booger incident under wraps, we were once again playing happily upstairs. Suddenly Katie screamed, pointed to the corner, and started BAWLING.
We all whirled around to see what could cause such a reaction.
There was Everett, with his Jungle Book whitey-tighties pulled down, peeing on Katie's satin pillow.
Our friendship somehow survived the satin pillow incident, but I still have no idea why Everett had it out for her.
**Since publication I have been informed that he was, in fact, TWO years old and not four. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused**
