The Ball is in His Court

Ever since we brought Jaco home from the farm on that cold evening in January, we have been waiting for the other ball to drop.
Literally. (Please ignore our mess, and that spot on the carpet was an ice cube Jaco abandoned there.)
Yes, I just posted a picture of my dog's testicle, but only to show you that HE ONLY HAS ONE. At first it was no big deal, the vet said the other one would probably descend by the time he was four or five months old. She also told me that I could periodically check him to see if maybe it had dropped and was just extremely small. She said it would feel "kind of like a Lima bean." Needless to say I have no idea if it feels like a Lima bean because 1. it never dropped and 2. unless it was absolutely imperative there was no way on God's green earth that I was just going to go feeling around down there.
Well, we are now at month nine, and still, he is a uniballed dog. He should have been neutered three months ago, but nothing can be that simple with my dog. Turns out, it's not just aesthetically pleasing to have two, it's important. If one is still inside it can cause cancer, so we now have to schedule surgery to have his inner ball removed.
Why can't you be a normal dog Jaco?

  1. Oh, this would be my luck with a dog, and I'd have laughed until I was crying uncomfortable tears when the vet said there would have to be feeling around. Here's hoping that, now that you've written about it, it will magically appear!

  2. Crazily enough, this happened to my poor little nephew, AJ! They had to perform surgery to pull it down in line with the other testicle (obviously with a human, they weren't removing it! LOL)and "staple" it in place so it could finish growing!! EEK! Poor Jaco.

  3. Aww, poor Jaco. I have girl dogs, and at this moment, I am so glad.
I would hate to have to take him to have that done.

  4. You think you have problems, Jaco probably knows people are talking about his nuts on national internets!

    The horrors.

Worst thing about it is that it costs more to fix, but he will be fine.

  5. This makes me laugh, only in that my puppy was a uniball. Then he got snipped and now he is noballed. But the ball watch was just, kind of, not on my top ten list.....even though it was required.

  6. That is too funny. I've never heard of a uniballed dog, so that was new to me! I wonder if he'll pout once he has the procedure done? hee hee.

  8. That is hysterical! I can just imagine a daily ball watch! Well, if they have to go in and surgically remove it, get him a prosthetic, a big one! LOL

  11. Guess he'll go from being uni-balled, to duo-balled and then back to no-balled when the vet get her hands on him!

Still, you probably wouldn't love him so much if he was like 'normal' dogs... Right?

  12. It's weird things like that that make me glad we have girl dogs. But thanks for sharing about Jaco's "plight". Does he even seem to notice?
