Hickory Smoked BBQ

As I left work a few weeks ago, I stepped out of the door and was immediately overwhelmed by the scent of woodsmoke. My stomach rumbled as I thought of barbecues and hickory-smoked chicken.
I continued to walk to my car and the delicious scent kept getting stronger. I looked in vain for the source, hoping it was a restaurant I would drag my husband to for dinner. I cannot even express to you how delicious the smell was.

I turned a corner and was immediately stopped dead in my tracks by the sight of flashing lights and firetrucks.

The hair salon down the street had caught on fire, and here I was following my nose to the scene like a mouse after cheese.

I am ashamed. Thankfully no one was injured, because that would have thrown a whole new kink in my psyche.

sucks that it was a hair salon though. and yeah, it would make you a teeny bit weird if you enjoyed the smell of burning bodies. lol!

  3. I'm sorry, I know that it is a terrible tradegy for the building to be burning. But Bekah! you had me going, thinking what resturant is she going to talk about. Is there going to be a recipe for BBQ sauce, what did they eat.....
    Great post.

  5. That sounds like something I would do!

When I was serving, a guy whose house had burnt down the night before left me a tip, and the money still smelled like smoke. It was definitely got a good 'barbeque' smell though.

  6. I can only imagine the issues you would have if there had been people in there! So did you eat BBQ for supper or did that turn you off of it for awhile?

  7. Hi, Bekah! Thanks for the addage on 20somethings :)

What a tantalising post! I was with you every step of the way: from mouthwatering temptation to shame and self-admonition -- and then in my case back to drooling.

I like your little stories and your colourful pictureful blog!
