Little Glass Balls and Hanging Angels

You know what I love about ornaments? How deeply personal they become over the years.

This one is one of the first ornaments Matt's parents had on their first Christmas trees.

This one...um...me shaving when I was three.

This is from my mom's tree, and it's...weird? Is that angel in a noose? Mom?! (She CLAIMS it broken but she wanted to hang it up anyway, and didn't think anyone would notice, good thing I'm around to point this stuff out!)

What is your favorite ornament?

  2. I love the picture of you shaving! So that's how you are so smooth...

We've got some little angels that are made out of beads by Zulu handcraftspeople that we love.

  4. My favourites are the ones the kids made over the years (like the famous q-tip, glue, and sparkles ornament)-but you're right, they are such personal little treasures, aren't they!

  5. My parents tree looks like a bunch of kids colored all over it... b/c of all the homemade tree decorations they've collected over the years!

Mr. C and I have a tradition to get an ornament that holds our picture each year and put the date on it.

  6. I don't have my favorite ornament. My husband and I are going to pick one out for our son and that will be my favorite.
But, if I had to pick one that I currenlty have, it would be the stange orange bird in an orange bird's nest. It use to be my mom's and I always wondered why she didn't throw it out...a few years ago she gave it to me and I love it. It's so personal. My childhood rushes back whenever I see it.

  7. I have some strung up angels, too!

I love all our Hallmark ornaments we've bought for special events, first babies and such. One year, our renegade dog ate the ornament to mark "Our First Christmas" and I was in tears. It was pure luck that I found it in some bargain basement sale three years later!

  8. I love pulling out all the special ornaments. I have a ton of angels and Tinkerbells that I can't wait to pull out. I think we're going to get our tree this weekend. YAY!!! :)

The angel with the noose cracked me up. I remember when I was a kid, I broke Joseph's head off of my step-mom's nativity set (not on purpose!!). Thankfully she was able to superglue it back on, but it still cracked me up every time I pulled it out.

  9. I was thinking the same thing about the angel!

My favorite ornament is the ones my mom gets us. Each year she gets a special ornaments, with our names, johns favorite movie is the christmas story so last year she got him the hallmark one of the boy in the snowsuit! I love getting new ones. This year we decided since its our first "married" christmas we are going to start a tradition with getting each a special ornament each year.

  11. That poor angel can't breathe! But the one with you shaving? Precious! I like the ones that Mr. Cat and I have been picking out together. It now makes the tree "ours".

  12. I love ornaments too. They are among my most treasured possessions. Every year I unwrap them and hang them....then rewrap them and box them. It's a wonderful process. They are like old friends...it's always nice to see them again.
