Progress in the Bedroom

Um...progress as in painting our bedroom. Just wanted to clarify that quickly before anyone thinks this that THAT kind of post.

We finally started working on our bedroom. You may remember that I asked for your advice about a month ago on the color in our bedroom, and while it may have taken me a while to get to it, we are finally doing it!

We started by ripping down the old drop ceiling, which was stained a dingy yellow from the previous owners smoking habit.

I'll be the first to say that I was SHOCKED at the amount of spiderwebs that can accumulate in a ceiling. Lord only knows what is lurking in my attic right this very second...watching me...waiting for me to drop my guard so it can pounce. Agggghhhhh.

Okay, sorry. I'm back. I'm good. I can't help it.

Due to the sheer amount of dust and cobwebs, my husband decided that I had to either leave the room and just let him do it, or I had to wear the appropriate safety gear of his choosing.

Personally, I think he just wanted to get a good laugh out of making me look like the eyeglass bandit. (Please excuse my shiny face, apparently that pregnancy glow that people talk about is actually oily skin! Who knew!?)

HOWEVER, I persevered, and eventually we managed to demolish the ceiling.

Frightening isn't it?

After that, my Brandon, my brother in law, came over to help paint. After the first coat my heart was beating so fast because WOW that is yellow!

After it dried and I got a chance to see it in the daylight I felt much better about the actual shade of yellow. And when I went in to do some more trim work this morning I found that Brandon had left me an encouraging note.

How sweet.

The boys should be coming over to do the ceiling tonight, and hopefully the room will be finished by the end of the weekend! I WILL keep you updated!

What do you think of the yellow so far...and by that I really mean, please say it doesn't make you think of a school bus, because it is already on the walls!

  1. I had to laugh at your title. I figured maybe it had something to do with that bun in the oven of yours.
I like that yellow! It will change throughout the daylight.
Bet you can't wait for it to be done!

  2. It looks so nice and cheery..yellow is a happy color so what better place than your bedroom? You'll have to excuse me, I'm partial to yellow right now since we just painted the exterior of our house yellow :)

  3. I'm assuming the "Bekah is a dork" was the dry paint...cuz the color looks much lighter than where the guys were applying it? Anyway, it's pretty! I really do like it! I think it will be so bright and happy in your bedroom. :-)

  4. I have always found that the paint colors mellow about a week after they are on the wall. It looks lovely. Cheerful.

Glad to hear that you are taking good precautions when renovating.

    How are you feeling?

Just kidding...I do like the yellow, it is not that bright, and it looks cheerful....now you have me thinking about yellow to replace a blue room I have now!! Have a great weekend.

  7. I love a yellow room. It's inviting, and if I could convince my husband to take that big step, I'd be slapping yellow paint on my bedroom walls right this second!

  8. First of all you have a wonderful husband that makes you wear safety gear (although I must admit, not your best look). My husband? He cuts a hole in the ceiling which leaves dust EVERYWHERE and painting in the common room and I keep telling him that I can't inhale all of that. He shrugs and says "yah I know" with an attitude of "suck it up". *sigh* My dear sweet manic husband. Don't get in the way of his progress! LOL

As far as the yellow goes.... its hard to say because the pic with Matt painting, the yellow IS pretty bright, but the note from your brother isn't nearly as bright and a really nice cheery color. So I guess it depends on which picture is more accurate.
