Don't Let Me Get Me

I'm a hazard to myself.

I'm starting to think that song MIGHT be about me. Why? Well here! Let me show you why! This is what I did this morning. That would a lump...on my forehead...from my own car door.
It's so much more impressive in person though...really brings home the idea 'battered woman'...which is totally what we here at Country Mouse Manor are going for.

Also, I'm fairly certain my neighbors saw me do it - that's going to really raise their opinion on me isn't it?

AND THEN...once I actually got to work, I got to have a face to face chat with one of my supervisors, which never happens. Seriously, I haven't even seen this woman since August, and the one day I talk to her I have a swelling forehead? Are you kidding me? So picture me, standing there pretending nothing is wrong, while this poor woman tries not to stare at the bright red line running from my eyebrow to hairline. I could see her eyes darting up to my injury every few seconds and all I could think was "please don't ask, please don't ask".

Now - onto the big question - which would be better in this situation, ice or heat? Ice, right? First aid has never been my thing.

32 Weeks; A Belly Comparison

I learned that I was pregnant when I was 5 weeks along. My stomach looked like this...
It's not going to look like that again is it? IS IT? Sigh...I know. It isn't. I just keep chanting "it will be worth it, it will be worth it, it WILL be worth it" every time I start to think about my former abs. Why didn't I wear a bikini more when I still had the chance? What was I so self-conscious about? Was I blind? These are the questions that will plague me 'til my dyin' day I tell ya!

I am now between 32 and 33 weeks along...my stomach looks like this...
...holy crap y'all, that's really me...still unbelievable sometimes! I feel HUUUGE!

Matt, on the other hand, would like you all to know that at 32 weeks, he has managed to keep him slim phsyique.
Right after this picture I punched him. Well, not really, but maybe a little in my head.

More Nesting Ambition

So, the nesting bug has hit, and it has hit hard. Not only is my house cleaner than usual (including our spice cupboard...'cause the baby is going to be using a lot of spices you know), but I am still on this knitting kick.

Can you guess what is up next on the knitting agenda? I'll give you a clue...
...?

UPDATE: It's a baby blanket!! I have all the patches finished, and am now working on the border...you should be seeing a finished product pretty soon!

The Fight That Almost Was

Scene: Our third birthing class.

Instructor: Now, there are many different positions you can labor in, and many that you can push in as well. Just remember, the harder you push, the faster you will get to meet your baby.

Matt: (whispers softly) You're going to be so bad at that.

Bekah: WHAT?!

Matt: What??

Bekah: Did you seriously just say that? That's not funny! You are a horrible labor coach!

Matt: What? What's wrong?

Bekah: What do you think is wrong? What did you just say to me Matthew?

Matt: I have to pee so bad?

Bekah: Ooooooohhhh, nevermind then.

The Acorn

In a slight fit of nesting frenzy, last week I made the decision that I was going to make my child at least one article that was completely handmade by me and only me. Since I had learned to knit when I was younger I thought 'Perfect! Of COURSE I can knit my child a hat at least!'

Determined as I was, this was the outcome of my first attempt.
Pathetic no? I contemplated sitting this lump of yarn on my newborns head and just pretending it was a hat, but that seemed sad, ya know?

HOWEVER, I persevered, watched some youtube videos that uh...refreshed...my knowledge of knitting, and tried again. And you know what?
Even if it is a little lopsided, I'm rather proud of myself!

In fact, once I mastered the basic idea of this hat, I got on such a roll that I made my nephew one as well, and boy oh boy did he look cute!
I think he looks just like an acorn. A sweet, chubby, blue-eyed acorn.

30 Weeks

As of tomorrow, my pregnancy will officially hit the 30 week mark, and boy do I have the cankles to prove it! As if it wasn't enough that my nipples are leaking, Mother Nature had to go ahead and throw the indignity of swelling in there as well? RUDE!

I can't really believe that in 10 weeks (more or less) we are going to meet our CHILD. I can't wait to see his/her personality begin to emerge, already I know that the baby can be quite sassy, as evidenced by the fact that every time a nurse tries to get its heart rate the little booger either kicks the dopplar repeatedly, or shifts as far away as possible. That's my kid!

Are you getting tired of the headless pregnancy photos yet? I'm sorry! I always end up taking them myself with my camera on a timer, and NO MATTER WHAT, I always miss the beep by a faction of a second and end up with either my eyes closed, my mouth open, or a some other not so pretty expression on my face. So to spare you, I crop my head out!

T minus 71 days! Excitement meets terror!

The Deck:Phase 1 Complete!

This weekend we finished the first phase of our deck. I am using the term 'we' pretty loosely here, as Matt, Tim, and Brandon actually did most...Okay - all...of the work.

Here is what we started with, basically you are seeing a hill, some dirt, and some old concrete block...HOW LOVELY!
The boys (including my annoying ol' brother in law Brandon) dug holes for the footers. Is he laughing here?? Get to work! There is no time for laughing Brandon!
I tell ya...that guy is always goofing off! Good thing I was there to lay down the law!

Next they found three (3!) of these guys hiding in our pile of lumber...

Charming.

(Several of you have commented asking what kind of snake this is...this, my friends, is what we call a Black Snake. Non-venomous. We do have venomous snakes in the area, but luckily not in our wood-pile! You can read about my childhood encounter with a poisonous snake HERE wherein I was rushed to the ER after being bitten by what I mistakenly believed was a worm.)

After we rid ourselves of the snakes, the boys set the footers in concrete, and went about putting up the frame for the deck...at least I'm pretty sure that's what they are doing here!
At that point I got distracted painting shutters and the door, so I sort of missed taking pictures of the rest of the process. I'm sure you get the picture though -- screws, deck boards, levels, etc. etc. blah blah blah...

All I know is...we ended up with this! And I love it!!
Check out our awesome view from OUR NEW DECK! (Can you tell I am excited!? Cause I really really am!) The creek is a little muddy right now, but still, it can't be beat. A few days ago we had a white heron standing in our back yard. OUR BACKYARD!
Now Matt and I need to decide on a stain...any suggestions? So far we have come up with "something dark-ish"...so we could use all the help we can get in that department!

Do you think something like this would be too dark?
Do you think something lighter is in order? More red? Should we just paint it purple for kicks?

I THINK I Know What They Mean...

This made me scratch my head a little as I drove by, so I just had to document it for you my friends! It says "We are God's idea We are his face his eyes his heart his period"

While I know what they MEANT, I couldn't help but giggle at the thought of me making God crampy and bloated once a month.
