The Parade

We had such a great time on Saturday, I wish you all could have been there! We were slightly disappointed by the parade this year, it seemed kind of unorganized, which was surprising because this event typically rocks.  But even that couldn't scare away our good time.
My boys were spell bound, at least for a while.  Eventually all Jack really wanted to do was climb up and down the curb while holding Daddy's had.
Right after I took this photo I saw a man knelt down taking pictures of Matt and Jack.  He stood up, explained that he was from The Washington Post, and interviewed Matt on his feelings about the Kiltie Society of Alexandria passing a new law stating that men must wear underwear when wearing a kilt.  If you could have seen Matt's face when the man went on to ask what Matt was sporting under his kilt! Oh boy! Wouldn't you like to know mister!
Ahem...anyway. As I was saying...we liked the parade.

The city of Alexandria dons it's finest for Christmas and boy to they know how to do it up right!  There are no blowup Santa snowglobes to be found, no Santa legs sticking haphazardly out of chimneys here and there.
I always leave with a bunch of new ideas to try, but I never actually get around to trying them! For instance...this was outside!
They had hung bunches and bunches of Christmas tree ornaments from their windows, and it was just so pretty and festive.  And oh hey look!
Actually, that is one of the only pictures that I got of myself there.  Matt and I had grand plans of getting a cute family photo taken, but, well...Jack was mostly doing this every time we picked him up.
Oh well. Still a great time! Also, I have to show off this picture even though my mom is going to be livid.
Isn't she just beautiful?  She needed a recent photo because the young lady she donated her kidney to will be holding it when she is in the Rose Parade on January 1st!

  1. Beautiful photos! What camera do you have?

  2. Thanks Aly! I have a Canon Rebel XT that I got right before we got married that I am finally starting to get the hang of!

  3. how cool - i didn't know that story about your mom. hope no one in kilts froze anything 'ehem - off. :)

  4. What great pics, sounds like so much fun!! Love the bit about Matt and his kilt, haha! And, Yes, your Momma is beautiful, inside and out!!! xoxo, Oukie

  5. O I love those decorations! I have a weak spot for the classic look of Christmas. Like you said, not the cartooney blow up stuff. The real garlands, the real trees, the beautiful bulbs. My neighbor across the street (and we live downtown, so you know that means we look directly at it) has a big giant blow-up cartoon bear, flashing lights galore and decorated to the nine with tacky ... and it's set to really bad Christmas music we can hear standing in our front yard. *Shudder*.

  6. Your mom's a beauty! And what a beautiful gift she gave!

  7. Just catching up on your posts. We were in Alexandria this weekend (love that place!) and I, too, was impressed/inspired with the festive decor.
