The Dudes

Possibly one of my favorite pictures of these two.
This was last week, obviously pre-haircut, when we headed to the park when Daddy got home from work.  Every day, Jack's little internal clock tells him that it's about for Daddy to roll in, and he stands on his toy bin at the window and watches for his car.  As soon as he sees him, he lets out a big 'Daddy!' and runs for the door.

It's just plain precious!

The Haircut

I've heard horror stories about first haircuts, but I have to say, Jack did fantastic! He was excited to see that the stylist was a pretty blond pregnant girl, and immediately started called her 'Emmy' (which is what he calls my pregnant blond sister).

We decided that the best bet was to have him sit in Matt's lap, and to give him a lollipop.  The boy would do anything for a lollipop! Both boys wore a cape, and away we went!
As you can see by his eyebrows, he was a little concerned about what was buzzing near his ear, but since there was no pain (and he still had his pop) he decided not to worry about it.
The stylist said that for having such light, fine hair, he sure has a lot of it! She buzzed both his neck and his sideburns! He definitely gets that from Daddy!
Here we had switched to a juice box to occupy his attention, and the stylist is just finishing up and vacuuming off the cut hairs.

And the finished product? Are you ready for this?  I'm not sure you are...
Well hello handsome!!
Mommy is awfully proud of you!

I was so impressed by his good behavior, I forgot to be sad that he was growing up, at least until she gave us a little certificate acclaiming his progression from babyhood to childhood with this, his first haircut, complete with his name, date, and a little clump of his baby hair attached to it.

A pregnant momma just can't handle that sort of thing!

A Big Day

You may have noticed that Jack has been rockin' a mullet lately.  No, it's okay, I know, I know. I have put off cutting it because, well, I don't want to! But I think it is time.  In fact, I know it is time.  It has started to curl into his ears until he shakes his head back and forth, and the back is at least two inches longer than the front.  Little Billy Ray Cyrus isn't really the look we are going for over here.
Business in the front, Party in the back!!
I love how wispy and soft it is, I love to comb my fingers through it when he falls asleep on me, I love combing it after his bath, I just I love his hair.

But, like I said, it is time.  So this afternoon, he has his very own appointment to get his first haircut (or an 'airtut' as he likes to say).

Out with the Billy Ray, in with the big boy.  You can pretty much bet that there will be plenty of pictures tomorrow!

Do you think the stylist will think I am insane if I cry? It's the pregnancy hormones! I can't help it!

Memories

I have great memories of my childhood.  I had so much fun, and so many of my memories revolve around the farm that I grew up on.  I had the blessing to grow up in the house next to my grandparents, and I have such wonderful memories of my sister and I stealing cherry tomatoes out of my Nanna's garden and riding around on the tractor with my Pop-pop.

Two weeks ago, I got to see my son make some similar memories with his Grandpa.

Oh be still my nostalgia lovin' heart!

Embracing This Pregnancy

It's been kinda tough to get excited about this pregnancy.  I mean...I am so excited about the new baby that will be joining us in 5 and a half months, but the pregnancy itself? At this point I am just tired.

I am starting to feel better, I really am, but you have to understand that that does not mean that I feel better.  For example, it is almost 11 AM and I have already thrown up twice (which Jack find hilarious by the way).  Most days I succeed in reminding myself that there are women out there that would give their right arm to be feeling the way that I am for the reason that I am, but other days...I just want to host a pity party of one.

We had a midwife appointment on Monday, and thankfully despite all the sickness, the medicines, and the allergic reaction to said medicine, the baby is doing marvelously. It's little heart was beating beautifully, and we could even hear it kicking! I can't feel it yet, although I am anxiously awaiting those first few thump-thumps from within.

I have lost five pounds in the past month, and since I was pretty slim to begin with, I look pretty twiggy right about now, but I have no doubt that as the morning sickness wanes (and it WILL) the numbers on the scale will quickly recover.
So, there you have it.  An itty bitty little belly at 14 weeks.  Small as it may be, Jack has noticed the change, and is constantly lifting my shirt to point to my belly.

I tried to tell him there was a baby in there, to which he looked at me...thought about it...pointed to my belly and whispered...'poop'.

The sun is shining, Jack has a new bubble wand to try out, and I am pregnant.  I will have a good day, and I hope you will too.

Because it's Tuesday

...and it's raining.
...and Jack is cutting his eye teeth.
...and we were 45 minutes late to playgroup today.

I think we could use something simple to smile about today.  I give you....

...chubby feet in baby Birkenstocks (taken yesterday in the random 80 degree weather).

What are you smiling about today?

Ketchup

I got hassled last night by my husband and brother-in-law for not being very diligent about updating my blog.  Hmph...how dare they point out something true?! The nerve!

I've been feeling very unmotivated lately, which is silly because I am finally starting to have a little more energy.  Note , I said a LITTLE more energy.  Not much, but I will take it! I still fall asleep on the floor of Jack's playroom in the morning, but if I sleep too long he comes over and sits on my head.

No, really, he does.  Then he says 'hi'! It's cute, except the painful head sitting part.  But anyway...I will try to update you on what has been happening 'round these parts in the last few weeks.

1. We went to Washington D.C. for a weekend with Matt's parents.
Jack had a blast at the museums! The dinosaurs were a big hit, as was the rock exhibit!

2. The boys celebrated St. Patty's Day in style.
The big boys enjoyed the libations while the little boys enjoyed the parade.

3. Matt turned 27! We had his birthday dinner last night, and I brought my camera, charged the batteries, and forgot a memory card.

So...that was a bummer.

4.  The other goldfish went on the long journey down the potty, so we picked up two more feeder goldfish in the meantime.  One had a rockin' mustache, but sadly, he is no longer with us.

Clearly, we are doing something wrong on the fish front...any advice out there???

I'm thinking maybe we just stick a goldfish cracker to the back of the tank and the kid is none the wiser right?

No?  Just a thought.

Bam

A little past 12 weeks - the end of the first trimester is in sight and I am starting to feel SO much more energy! Also...I can't button my pants.
