Bad Boys

There was a bust a playgroup today.  These two hoodlums got caught on the street with an open sippy cup.

Tsk, tsk, what IS the world coming to these days?

Mommys Little Guys

I spend a lot of time as the person behind the camera, but every now and then I notice Matt creep into the room and snap a few pictures! I'm so grateful that he does this, because it is important to me to have pictures with my little dudes.

I just want to make sure that I have a visual reminder of the way they fit in my arms at this stage.  The way Jack would strain to get away, to move on to the next thing.  The way Luke was pretty much a blob.  A cute blob, but a blob nonetheless.
To remember the sound of Jack's voice as he excitedly 'popped' the eggs for our meatloaf. He was SO into it.
The feel of Luke's squishy little cheek beneath my lips. They way he STILL opens his mouth to suck on my lips almost every time I kiss him.

Pictures just evoke memories for me, little details that I might otherwise forget.  And I don't want to forget (hence the love of blogging).

Toddler Trouble

Me:  Jack, I am going to put Luke down for his nap, do you want to come upstairs with me?

Jack: No.  I stay downstairs.

Me: Okay, be very careful.

Jack: Can I take my scooter upstairs?

Me: No.  We NEVER take scooters upstairs.  You could fall down the stairs and get a bad boo-boo.

I thought that was the end of the story.  I took Luke up, swaddled him, gave him his pacifier and headed back down to Jack.

What did I find?  Oh....just this...

Good grief.

Love Mission, Year 2

The boys and I had a great time visiting some loved ones on Valentine's Day.  We spent a portion of the day before baking cookies! It was the first time Jack had ever used a cookie cutter, and he did such a great job! Oddly, he also loved eating the flour.  I mean...I can eat cookie dough with the best of them...but flour? Ew.
He had a blast with the 'finkles' as well, even if he did get a little over-enthusiastic with them.  Let's just say I will be sweeping 'finkles' up off of the floor for weeks to come!
Luke was content to supervise.  He is always content to supervise, he is the most chill baby I have ever met!
When the big day rolled around, we headed out to playgroup first, where Jack put the finishing touch on a really cute Valentine's craft that I forgot to take a picture of.  So just pretend that there is a picture of that here.

Okay, THEN, we packed into the car and delivered our first batch of cookies to none other than our very favorite Spanish teacher.
We brought him lunch too, and although Jack acted really shy around the other teachers, he walked through the halls like he owned the place.
It was VERY weird to see him sitting in a desk, it kind of broke my heart in a silly way.  I felt like I had seen a little glimpse of the future, and - spoiler alert!- he grows up.
It was a nice treat to see Matt in the middle of the day, and I know Jack loved it.  He asked to go back again yesterday.

When we left there, we headed straight to our next cookie recipient...my Nanny! The boys great-grandmother.  Usually I try to call before we head over, but this time I wanted to surprise her!
She was very surprised to see Jack running up the walk with a handmade Valentine and little baggie of slightly burnt sugar cookies.  We spent some time just hanging with Nanna, and then? It was off to our next stop!

Jack shyly delivered his next baggie of cookies to my mom at her office, and to his surprise...she had a Valentine for him as well!
Luke got his very first Valentine as well!

After that it was time to head home, where Luke promptly conked out on my chest while we cuddled in a chair.  Matt got home soon after and presented me with some V-day Bling!
But this little swiper took it!

We gave Jack and Luke their little Valentine mailboxes then, and they were excited to find stickers inside! Well...Jack was excited...
..Luke was indifferent, just happy to be kicking his legs in his bouncy seat.

And then! (I know...this day was SO busy, it's a little crazy) Then! My mom watched the boys while Matt had our very first dinner without a little one present.  We went out with some friends for dinner, and it was SO nice to actually be able to listen to what people were saying!

By the end of the night, I missed my babies, but I realized that I had also really missed my husband!
Ha, what do you know! I like that guy!

And that, my friends, was our Valentine's Day.  I'm still recovering.

V-day Prep

Unrelated to the rest of this post - we bought a new couch! So I listed our old one on Craigslist, thinking it might take a week or so to sell.  To my surprise someone bought it outright the next day (last Wednesday).   Call it poor planning on my part, because our new couch won't be here until THIS Friday.  So...this post brought to you by the living room floor!  I'm just such a planner, you know?

But ANYWAY...

We are deep in preparations for another little 'love mission' this year, and oh yes...there will be sprinkles! Lots of SPRINKLES! We have had our house a valentine'd up for about two weeks now, and we have been focusing on a LOT of Valentine crafts.  Nothing big, but give a two year old some pink paper and a glue stick and I call that a craft!
We still need to make our actual Valentine's to give out, and I am excited to have TWO little fellas to take on a little love mission to spread some smiles tomorrow!

As I've said before, I don't think that holidays have to be a huge production, but I do think it is important to create experiences for children enjoy and remember.  We only get one shot at this parenting gig,  and I want them to remember how they used to count the hearts hung around the house and how we would deliver some smiles on Valentine's day.

Ninjas

This is too cute NOT to post.  Tonight at my moms house, my brother decided that the boys should learn a little bit about ninjas.
Jack is in the black, Emerson is in the blue.  I stole this little collage from my brother-in-law on facebook.  I'm sure he won't mind...and if he does?  Eh...I'll send my little ninja after him!

EGO

Well heelloooooo! I know...one post a week...kinda sad, but seriously you guys, I've been so stressed out with this whole 'Matt losing his job thing', that I just really haven't a whole lot to say.

Believe it or not, that DOES relate to this post.  When I am stressed, I tend to lose weight, so I guess the silver lining to this whole stressed out time in our lives is that I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I stepped off the scale and did a big, over the top, fist pump, followed by a yell down the stairs to Matt 'BABE! I'm mumble-mumble pounds now!".

Needless to say, I was feeling pretty darn good about myself.  So what did I do?  I pulled on a pair of pre-pregnancy pants that, to date, were still WAAAAY to snug to wear in public.  With a little acrobatics, they buttoned, so I continued to get dressed.

I leaned down to pull on my boots and rrrriiiiiiiiiippppppppp...

Yeah.  Right down the ol' buttcheek.

Skinny Jeans: deflating egos since the dawn of denim.
